Is there any London burger better than the holy Byron Burger? Probably not, but it's a good excuse to eat a lot of burgers.

The Don burger from GBK - is it better than Byron?

After starting this blog last Friday and reading all of the other burger blogs, inevitably all I could think about was eating a delicious juicy burger!

The creation of the blog raised much debate in my office, almost starting a full on slagging match between the Haché and Byron supporters, with Honest Burger fans providing a particularly compelling argument...

However, it was raining and funds are running low, so we settled for a GBK on the way home.

One of my colleagues was waxing lyrical about GBK's new 'Don' burger, and it sounded pretty awesome, so I decided to check it out...

The Don Burger from GBK

What's this burger all about?

Brioche bun, bacon aioli, blue cheese, American cheese, onion jam, rocket, mustard mayo. Done. I skipped the mustard and went for regular mayo instead.

The burger costs £9.95, and doesn't come with any sides. We got the skinny fries (£2.75) which are normally a favourite of mine, but forgot to ask for them with rosemary, leaving them tasting pretty average.

Was it a great burger?

It had all the components to be a fantastic burger, maybe the best burger of all time, but the reality was disappointing.

Too much rocket, not a big enough patty and too much reliance on the toppings. The patty itself was tender and juicy, but distinctly lacking in flavour.

The best thing about this burger was the delicious onion relish and blue cheese combo. But if I wanted to taste blue cheese and onion relish I'd get a cheese board.

Is it better than a Byron burger?

No, it's not better than a Byron burger.

Fine for a casual lunch or dinner with friends, but it's not going to make anyone's burger dreams come true.

The search continues...

Is there a better burger than the Byron? There's only one way to find out...

Working in a Camden media agency my colleagues and I frequently go out for a lunchtime burger, but every time we do an argument erupts - Haché or Byron Burger?

Since I devoured my first burger from Byron back in 2010 I have been an avid support, even going so far as to declare "there is no better burger than the Byron", but then I started to wonder... could there be a better burger out there?

Other blogs have attempted to find the best burger in London, but none have directly compared these valiant efforts against the great and mighty Byron.

London needs to know the truth.
